Spark Comic #28 - Mortal Kombat

I owned the original Mortal Kombat game as a kid and I had fun with it even if I was disturbed by the gore at such a young age. It was okay but I never could get into it...

I recently was able to try the new Mortal Kombat reboot game and it was weird because this is essentially what happened in the game. You get new X-Ray Moves that feature your character breaking most of your opponent's bones or impaling them outright (or in Sub-Zero's case, freezing and crushing someone's organs... somehow), but then they get up and start jumping, somersaulting, and kicking your ass all over the place. I know it's a fighting game and it's a genre where logic rarely applies, but don't see the point of the X-Ray moves if none of the unsurvivable damage I inflict actually does anything significant other than decrease someone's health bar. Logically, the X-Ray moves might as well be another form of fatality for all the bone crushing they do, but I stopped caring as soon as the opponent got up as if he got out of that attack unmolested. If you like your gore overexaggerated or you're Count Dracula, you'll find plenty like in Mortal Kombat, I guess, but as for me I'll stick with Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

See you next comic!
