Spark Comic #45 - Euro Cup 2012

This comic features a big pet peeve I've had with the Euro Cup, or any big Sports event in general. Now, I like soccer. It's one of the few sports I can watch and not be extremely bored and I love to play it, however, I am not a sports fan. I am very indifferent to just about all sports news, even the olympics, nor do I care or keep track of the players. LOTS of people I used to know thought it was a catostrophic problem that I had no passion for sports for some reason. I do respect people who LIKE sports, but I can't help but be annoyed when fans bring their passion into the streets.

My biggest issue is when some team wins a sports game and the fans choose to "Honk" and "Beep" with their cars and waving flags in the street, you are cursed to hear the full brunt of it for as long as it lasts with no avenue of escape within your own home. It's extremely annyoing and unnecessary. During the Euro Cup, which hardly watched, this would last for hours into the night and it's the last thing I need to hear when I'm concentrating on something or sleeping.

I respect sports fans, but there's no reason to make a disturbance because of things like this. I remember when that huge Vancouver riot happened last year over a big Canada Vs Russia Hockey game that Canada lost and I was just staring at the news going, "What the fuck is wrong with you people?!"

What's funny is that my dad and I watched the last quarter of the Euro Cup Final game (Spain Vs. Italy) and saw that Spain won. We had already guessed that most people in the area were Italian fans due to the multitude of flags. We thought that, because of this, there wouldn't be that much honking in the streets and, sure enough, there wasn't. There were a few honks from cars but it didn't last more than about half an hour, so it was barely a bother. What was also great about that was that it was July 1st, so my Canada Day was pretty quiet and relaxing overall.

But yeah, if you're a sports fan, that's cool. It's great that your team won and I'm really happy for you. Just please, PLEASE, keep your joy to yourself and stop irritating the crap out of me.

See you next comic! :)
